Angela Obasa is a Program Manager at the Public Health Institute’s Center for Wellness and Nutrition (PHI CWN), where she plays a pivotal role as the point-of-contact for federally funded coordinators serving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) recipients across the southeast U.S. With over 15 years of progressive experience in social marketing approaches promoting health literacy, nutrition, and physical activity education, Angela brings a wealth of expertise to her role.

Angela’s dedication to public health began early in her career at PHI CWN, where she initially worked from 2002 to 2015. During this period, she focused on managing government-funded programs and providing high-level technical assistance. Her work included building robust community partnerships and developing culturally appropriate resources to reach and empower hard-to-reach populations.

In her interim period away from PHI CWN, Angela served as a Marketing and Communications Manager in Information Technology at California’s first chartered university. There, she oversaw formal communications to a diverse audience of faculty, staff, and students across multiple campuses, managing everything from emergency notifications to educational opportunities through various channels.

Angela’s career has consistently emphasized empowering vulnerable populations with health knowledge gained from programs she has led and supported. She has championed initiatives ranging from mentorship programs for aspiring healthcare professionals in the Central Valley to promoting workplace health, oral healthcare, and literacy initiatives.

Angela holds a degree in African American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. Beyond her professional commitments, Angela plays an integral role in the lives of her godchildren and enjoys spending time with her extended family.
