Georgia Community Listening Sessions
Overview:
Our team partnered with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services to engage with SNAP-Ed eligible adults in underserved Georgia communities. This initiative, guided by the Georgia Community Advisory Board, involved conducting listening sessions with 97 residents across five areas. The sessions aimed to identify how SNAP-Ed could enhance support for healthy, active lifestyles. Participants highlighted community strengths like food pantries, pinpointed challenges such as limited grocery access, and recommended expanding nutrition education programs. The project led to a strong community call for statewide expansion of SNAP-Ed services.
Impact:
This project highlighted critical gaps and opportunities within Georgia’s SNAP-Ed services, providing a clear, community-driven roadmap for improvement. By directly engaging with residents, we uncovered actionable insights into local needs and preferences, paving the way for targeted, effective program enhancements. The strong recommendation for statewide expansion underscores the community’s commitment to increasing access to nutrition education and resources, demonstrating the significant potential for broader, positive change in public health across Georgia.
