Angela Dennis is a Program Manager at the Public Health Institute Center for Wellness and Nutrition (CWN). She serves as the point-of-contact for federally-funded coordinators who serve Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) recipients in the southeast territory of the United States. She has over 15 years of progressive experience in social marketing approaches that promote health literacy and nutrition and physical activity education. Within the health field, Ms. Dennis’s areas of expertise include, managing government-funded programs, providing high-level technical assistance, building community partnerships, and targeting hard-to-reach audiences with culturally appropriate resources. She is super passionate about seeing the most vulnerable populations arm themselves with information gained from health programs and then, take actions to prevent chronic diseases.
Ms. Dennis worked at CWN from 2002 until 2015. Prior to rejoining CWN in 2019, she worked at California’s first chartered university as a Marketing and Communications Manager in Information Technology (IT). In this role, she managed all aspects of formal communications regarding IT activities to over 5,000 faculty, staff, and students on the university’s three campuses. She communicated emergency situations, impending hardware, and software upgrades, and online, educational opportunities via various channels. Ms. Dennis created branding guidelines and wrote content for web pages and social media platforms. In addition, she co-managed the implementation of IT’s first internship program.
Ms. Dennis also worked as a Health Promotions Specialist with the leading Medi-Cal managed care provider in the Central Valley. She designed a successful, mentorship program to complement the existing Health Careers Scholarship Program that she managed. The mentorship program paired high school and college students with professionals who encouraged them to study in the healthcare field and pursue employment in the Central Valley after graduation. While there, Ms. Dennis also led and promoted a healthy workplace, oral healthcare, and literacy initiatives.
Angela Dennis is a proud graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in African American Studies. When she’s not championing the cause for health and literacy, she plays the role of a superhero to her godchildren.
