Denise Martinez, MPH, CHES, is a Research Associate III at the Public Health Institute’s Center for Wellness and Nutrition (PHI CWN). She brings a wealth of expertise to various projects, focusing primarily on initiatives supported by Abbott Fund in Stockton, California, and the California Department of Social Services.

Originally from Los Angeles, Denise is the youngest daughter of immigrants from El Salvador. Her work reflects a deep commitment to equity-based public health research. Before joining the team, Denise conducted community needs assessments, program evaluations, community education campaigns, and clinical research. She holds a Master of Public Health from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health where she completed her thesis on the environmental and structural contributors to moral distress among nurses and nurse midwives within the obstetrics space. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology from Whittier College. Denise is also a Certified Health Education Specialist.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Denise enjoys spending her spare time cooking, watching the sunset, and visiting her favorite place, the beach.
