Metria Munyan serves as the Equity and Engagement Program Manager at the Public Health Institute’s Center for Wellness and Nutrition (PHI CWN). For nearly 20 years she has supported a diverse range of prevention strategies and national initiatives funded by Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other state and federal agencies. With a steadfast commitment to social justice and authentic community engagement, Metria leads the coordination and oversight of staff, clients, partners, and subcontractors for programs aimed at reaching low-resource and underserved populations, addressing heath inequities and social determinants of health. She is instrumental in developing and implementing PHI CWN’s Health Equity and Racial Justice Platform, guiding its integration across all programs.

Before assuming her current role, Metria contributed significantly to nutrition education and obesity prevention efforts with the Network for a Healthy California, specifically through SNAP-Ed interventions. Her dedication to amplifying youth voices and fostering community-driven change complements her leadership in Youth Engagement initiatives at PHI CWN.

Metria brings extensive expertise in training, technical assistance, and event coordination. Metria prioritizes hands-on, collaborative learning strategies that are responsive to the unique needs of each organization, ensuring sustained implementation through ongoing technical support and peer collaboration.

In addition to her programmatic responsibilities, Metria plays a pivotal role in logistical coordination for web-based training, youth forums, and state conferences, facilitating impactful gatherings that enhance community knowledge and engagement across diverse audiences.

She is dedicated to supporting the creation of a more equitable, healthy, and thriving world. With a focus on heath equity, racial justice, and community empowerment, Metria brings both her personal and professional experiences to the table to shape solutions that support community health, safety, and wellbeing.
