CDSS Health Equity Needs Assessment
Overview:
Our team conducted a comprehensive needs assessment to evaluate and enhance the integration of racial and health equity practices within CalFresh Healthy Living programming, planning, and evaluation. This multi-faceted approach included:
- A detailed literature review to identify best practices and gaps
- Surveys of state and local staff to capture a wide range of perspectives
- Mapping to pinpoint areas with the highest needs
- Key informant interviews to gather rich, qualitative insights
The data was analyzed and synthesized into actionable insights, resulting in tailored recommendations for embedding equity within SNAP-Ed programming and evaluation.
Impact:
CalFresh Healthy Living serves approximately two million people annually. The findings and recommendations from this assessment are central to the development of a statewide Equity Strategic Framework. This framework will help guide CalFresh Healthy Living in more effectively serving California’s diverse communities, ensuring that equity remains central to all programming and evaluation efforts. By prioritizing equity, the framework will enhance the program’s inclusivity, effectiveness, and ability to address the needs of vulnerable populations.
