Spotlighting the Campaign: SPARK Program

Youth-led. Community care. Cultural impact.

The SPARK Program, developed by SNAHC through the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative – Community Alliances for Local Impact (CYBHI CALI) grant, mentors American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth ages 14–18 with communications professionals to design and implement social marketing campaigns. As a summer program, youth are trained in social marketing principles to ignite change in their communities. The program includes field trips, guest speakers, campaign creation, and community outreach activities.

In summer 2024, SPARK youth developed three campaigns:

  • Project Next Gen Coloring Book – amplifying the “For Us, By Us” model and celebrating youth resilience and creativity.
  • It Starts With You Video – exploring intergenerational trauma through symbolic storytelling.
  • Take the First Step Video – highlighting signs of self-harm and encouraging youth to seek help.

The program resumed in May 2025, with a new campaign in development. To further extend its reach, SPARK will produce a local commercial with Hearst TV and additional short-form content for SNAHC’s social media channels. These initiatives empower youth to create meaningful messages, engage peers, and foster wellness, resilience, and culturally grounded community care.
